Promotional flyer design
A flyer is a single piece of paper used to get your message about a product, service or event to your target audience in order to gain attention and increase awareness. It can be handed directly to people at a gathering, left on a counter to be taken home as a reminder, or distributed in mail boxes. And of course flyers can also be digital (e-flyer), sent in an email, posted on social media or a website. Either way, they're a great little piece to design.
Typical sizes for printed flyers are: A4 210mm x 297mm; A5 148mm x 210mm; A6 / postcard 105mm x 148mm; and DL 99mm x 210mm. These can be printed front only, or front and back.
Promotional brochure design
A brochure is a single piece of paper, folded into pages. Similar to flyers, brochures are use to communicate information about your business, its products, or services. And also similar to flyers, I love to design them. The two most common types of brochures are:
A4 bi-fold brochure: an A3 piece of paper folded in half to create 2 A4 pages on each side of the paper, totalling 4 pages. A front cover, left and right inside pages, and back cover. A5 size is also possible.
DL tri-fold brochure: an A4 piece of paper folded twice to create 3 DL pages on each side of the paper, totalling 6 pages. A front cover, a folded flap, left inside, middle inside, right inside, and back cover.
If more than 6 pages is needed, but you want to stick with one piece of paper folded (rather than a booklet), then a roll fold or concertina brochure could do the trick. These can have 8, 10, 12, or more pages. A common use for this type of brochure are instruction manuals.
Booklet / business book design
Once there is more than one piece of paper involved and staples or stitching is required to hold them together, technically it’s not a brochure anymore, it’s a booklet (8 to 50 pages) or book (more than 50 pages). These can be used to show off your business, services or products. You have more room to add images, graphics, charts, diagrams, infographics, a variety of things that help support your information. Annual reports, manuals, programs, guides and catalogues are great examples of booklets. I do like a project with multiple pages to design!
Logo design
A logo is typically at the very least, the business name, but can also include a graphic or icon. The logo is like the signature of a business or organisation. It identifies it and separates it from other businesses. It is is the foundation of a brand. Designing a logo for someone just starting up a business is one of the most exciting and satisfying things I can do.
Branding
Branding is the process of creating your business’s story, its identity. Strong brands result in strong customer following. Where I can help is in the creation of items that help to build your brand. Everything should look like it belongs to the same family – your logo, stationery, flyers, brochures, booklets, website, social media accounts, reports, catalogues, posters, etc. There should be a consistency in fonts, colours, style, etc, so that every item is easily identifiable as part of your business. Usually a style / identity guide is created, detailing the features that need to be consistent in the brand. This can be used by anyone involved in creating an item, so that the brand’s look and feel is maintained. It’s very exciting to see a brand come together.
Other items
There is definitely more to design that what I've mentioned above... book covers (kindle eBooks, paperback, Audible), web design (not development), reports, posters, ads, stationery, t-shirts… If there is something you need but it’s not on this page, just ask me. I’m sure we can figure something out.
Costs
As every job is unique, I don’t have set prices. An item for one client might take an hour, while the same item for another client with different needs and targets might take 3 hours. So I look at each job individually (the text content, images, what item(s) are to be created (print and/or digital), what these items need to achieve, etc) and estimate how long it will take to complete, to come up with a quote. So if you're keen to improve your business or get one started, simply get in contact and let's start a design journey.
